Hells Mouth
Looking West from Hells Mouth.

I teamed up with "Dustbin" Dave Sanders from Wellington Wheelers. With only 9 starters it would be a lonely event so we decided to stick together.
Although time was tight, a cup of
coffee at portreath seemed a good
idea. I'd been up since 4am to get to
the start, so was feeling pretty dopey.
Leaving Portreath the long climb was soon rewarded with superb views along the North Cornwall Coast, to St.Ives
bay and Hell's Mouth where we
stopped to take in the scenery.
Lands End
Bike at Lands End, ex-beauty spot, now a theme park.

Outside a Lands End cafe
Outside one of lands Ends grotty cafes.

(Lands End! - you know the way - but you could save yourself the bother and go to Cape Cornwall instead!)

It was quite a stiff ride down Lands End. After the relatively flat run around through Hayle, it was a long climb through Nancledra, and on the road past Zennor. Even St.Just had a drag awaiting befroe the final run downhill to the Theme Park.
Lands End is a real eye sore these days. Shops full of plastic seagulls and Lighthouses made out of Balsa Wood.
We chatted with a YHA group who had done E2E via the continent, and just arrived.
Refreshed by a cuppa at one of the cafes there, and slightly concerned at the lack of time we had available we set off East towards Porthcurno the weather was changing with layers of heavy cloud rolling in..

Checking in at Lizard control
Checking in at Lizard.
Going past Goonhilly.
Goonhilly Downs.
Climbing out of Gweek.
Shady lanes around Gweek.
It was a pretty run into Penzance, and we stopped at the Safeway cafe near Longrock. I gorged on a half price punnet of strawberries with clotted cream, washed down with cheese toastie.
Outside I changed my gear cable, which was doen to three stands and had to pulled around to touch the front mudguard before it engaged 1st!
Bike fettled we set off again.
More pretty lanes before heading across the downs of the Lizard to control at the Regent Cafe. The weather was threatening and rain was in the air.
The next section to Truro was very lumpy.

more ..soon!
