The Torplex 200Km is one of the many Audax rides organised annually.

It starts from the Newton Abbot & District Recreational Trust in Marsh Lane, Newton Abbot.  This is a charity organisation, and every year they provide us with good facilities,   i.e Ample parking,    Changing rooms & showers.   Food and drink at the finish.    A bar.   Early finishers can even sit out on the patio and watch the cricket match!

The ride is organised by the Devon Branch of the local CTC, under the regulations of AUK.  For a full list of regulations visit the AUK main website at http://www.audax.uk.com .  The ride is slightly over the 200Km mark, around 209Km or 130 miles, taking in some quite hilly terrain over Dartmoor and through the South Hams. You have 13 hours and 20 minutes to complete the ride.  That's a minimum average speed of 15 kph.    If you are super-fit you can finish in half that time, - 6 hours and 40 minutes with an average speed of 30 kph.    If you can acheive this then you should be riding in the Tour in July!

Why is it called the Torplex 200?? Because it visits the areas of TORbay, PLymouth, and EXeter, hence TORPLEX.

If you are new to Audax riding - here are the basics.  You ride a set route within a given time.  You have a card at the start, ( a Brevet Card) with blank squares on it, in which you have to obtain a stamp from a Control Point along the route. There are opening and closing times for the Controls, which may be Cafe's, Village Halls, Garages, or they may be info. collection controls where you have to write an answer in the box.  If you arrive at the Finish in time with your card duly stamped then you have completed your Brevet (ride!)    At the finish you can usually buy a badge or medal. You are issued with a route sheet in advance, but it's usually a good idea to take along a map, and to have planned the route beforehand.

Entry should be made at least 2 weeks in advance! (Late entries accepted but a fee charged) You must use the correct AUK entry form, and if you are not an AUK/CTC/BCF member you must add £1 to your entry fee for temporary insurance.   The fee for our ride is £4.00 which includes some food.   Cheques should be payable to the organiser, Graham Brodie.  You should also include TWO stout C5 ( 9" x 6") Stamped self addressed envelopes. (To make the organiser really unhappy and ensure that your Brevet Card is returned really late, send  two tiny 4" x 3" envelopes with gum that doesn't work!)
